#437 - Clerks 2

Everyone's favorite slacker heroes are at it again in Clerks 2 by director Kevin Smith. I laughed throughout the film even to the point where I spit out my drink in laughter. As with the first Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob have the funniest moments in the film. I have to say the funniest line was "This tastes like piss and flies, doesn't it?" Also as usual Dante and Randall are our moral centers of the film who we want to see develop and grow. This film has far more growth out of them then the previous film and it is done in a nice method. I give this film 4.5/5 stars.

#436 - Close Encounters of the Third Kind

The film Close Encounters of the Third Kind has been reworked by Steven Spielberg three times since its release. I was able to watch the original film without any changes by Mr. Spielberg. I have to agree with him in the way in which he felt a change was needed. He thought that it would be good for a shot of the inside of the mother ship. The movie itself was very good and the effects were amazing for the time. Richard Dreyfuss was incredible as the lead character and he makes you believe that he is actually going inside while filming this. I give this film 4/5 stars.

#435 - To Catch a Thief

To Catch a Thief is a thriller by the master himself Alfred Hitchcock. The film stars the stunning Grace Kelly and the awesome Cary Grant. The film tells the story of a former jewel thief who is being framed for some new crimes by a copycat. It is then up to him to clear his name. The story kept me hanging and even suprised me when they finally revealed who the culprit was. It does have a side you normally see in Hitchcock but is never prominent in the main role, a love story. It seems that throughout the film it fovuses more on Grant's love story with Kelly then with the plot. I give it 3.5/5 stars.

#434 - The Hudsucker Proxy

The Hudsucker Proxy is a film starring Tim Robbins and PAul Newman and is directed by the amazing duo The Coen Brothers. This film is set up as a comedy but has a lot of the elements of a dram near the end of the film. I might be a little biased because i think the Coens are gods in the directing field but I laughed a decent amount through this movie. Paul Newman was great as the film's villain and the ending is very satisfying to anyone. I give this film 3.5/5 stars.

#433 - Live Free or Die Hard

Live Free or Die Hard is the fourth in the Die Hard series starring Bruce Willis. The film deals with a cyber terrorist who is going after America's infrastructure. The film is very strong when it comes to acting but seems to fall very short when you look at the previous Die Hard films. First off, there was no mention at all of the incident in the first Die Hard by the villain or even random people. Secondly, he tosses himself into the situation before giving himself a chance to get out. I can understand if some people might say, "Chuckles but in Die Hard 2 he tossed himself into the problem." Well he does so because he has something at stake in the film and not because it is his civil duty. Overall I give this film a 4/5 because Bruce Willis is awesome and only Kevin Smith should be the Warlock.

#432 - March of the Penguins

March of the Penguins is a documentary from 2004. It is narrated by Morgan Freeman. It tells about Penguins in Antarctica. It is a slightly interesting movie. I would not say it is the best documentary ever. I figure that anyone who has an interest in animal behavior would love this film as a learning method. I say the best part would have to be Freeman's voice. I give the film 3/5 stars just because it wasn't exactly my cup of tea.

#431 - Son of the Bride

The film Son of the Bride is from the country of Argentina. It is directed by a guy who I just found out directed a few episodes of American television including House. The film centers around an Argentinian man who owns a restaurant and happens to have a mother who is currently undergoing Alzheimer's. He has some serious health and relational issues as well. The one major thing that caught me by suprise was that the direct was able to fittingly fit in a major issue like Alzheimer's disease and actually make it funny. The film seemed to easily transition and the acting along with the character development was incredible. I give this film a 4/5 stars.

Butch Cassidy?

So...I was looking over the movie news from my source WorstPreviews.com. I read a very shocking story. There has been rumors that there would be a sequel to the classic film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Well they have now revealed that the film will only contain Butch and take place years after the original. Now he®e is my question. WHY WOULD YOU RUIN SUCH AN AMAZING FILM. The ending was amazing and left you believing that they both died in the gunfight. Their apparent plot takes Butch and has him doing one last job before going back the the US, One of their commentors, like I do, found this plot to look like Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood. . This should not happen please petition to stop it.

LOST theories

I was reading the USA Today this morning and in their Life section they had a nice summary of a book entitiled The Gospel According to Lost by Chris Saey. In his book he compares certain story elements relate to parts of scripture. PLEASE NOTE:I am not preaching. What his book does is do a comparision here are some of them:
* Jacob and the MIB are like Jacob and Esau from Genesis.
* Richard might be analogous of Joseph from Genesis.
* Aaron could be a reference to Moses' brother and the story of Moses.
* Jacob could be considered Peter, due to revelation from the episode entitled Ab Aeterno.

Upset

As you all should know I use this site to complain and share film knowledge. Well I have a complaint. I have an idiot roommate. At 1 this morning he decided to cook himself something as I slept for my 4 am wake up today. At 1.30 am the fire alarm went off because he burnt his food. I then had to wake up walk outside and wait for the campus police to come and shut if off. Then the officer came in and headed over to a separate apartment. So my followers I am quite upset.

#430 - Fantastic Voyage

Fantastic Voyage is a sci-fi film from 1966 that has been spoofed over and over again. The story is definitely original from the point of the time period that it premiered in. Nowadays it seems like an overused plot point. The background images when they are still in the body of the scientist. The major thing that disappointed me was that it was easy for me to uncover who was sabotaging all of the equipment in the submarine. Other then that for a sci-fi film from the 60s it was really good. I give it 3.5/5 stars.

Politics and Film

So a week ago I was at the Regal seeing Cop Out with Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis. I got there really early and sat through the preflixs show. During the show they play various ads throughout. One of those ads really got me in a small bit of rage. There was a political ad sitting there waiting for me to digest. It was an Anti-Health care ad. I know that normally they show ads to get some revenue but when I go and see a comedy involving Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis I do not want to be asked to think about the health care debate. What do you guys think?

#429 - The Rainmaker

The Rainmaker is a film based off a novel by John Grisham and is directed by legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. The film tells the story of a new lawyer who takes on a large insurance firm. His only help is a man who has failed the bar exam six times. I have yet/ to read the novel so I am not sure how accurate the film is to the novel. The casting department with having most of the actors in the film are at least in their 40s+ and Damon is obviously in his 20s or early 30s at the time of the film. The acting on the part of these very seasoned actors is amazing and Damon fake acting in the film is incredible. It doesn't have the same fell of most Grisham novels with thriller aspects to it. I give it a 4/5 stars.

#428 - All the King's Men (1949)

The film All the King's Men won an Oscar in 1950. It was recently remade in 2006 with Sean Penn and Jude Law. The film centers around Wilie Starke a recently elected politician who wants to remove corruption. It is not a horrible film. It was definitely better then the 2006 remake attempt that Penn tried. Broderick Crawford is a much more believable Stark then Penn. I thought this was a good length for the film. I am unsure of how in 2006 they added 18 minutes into the film. The fact that they had more of the story between Willie and his son involved was great. It does show more of a fall in character by Willie in this film showing him more focused on money even when the son's problem occurs and he has a monogram bathrobe. I give it 3.5/5 stars.
