#464 - The Lives of Others

The Lives of Others is a German espionage film that takes place in the middle of the Cold War. It tells of a specific Stasi agent who is doing some surveillance on a writer who his higher ups believe may be a threat to their national security. It is an interesting film especially as you watch what happens to our Stasi agent. The ending was cool but I would have liked a little detail on the book the writer actually dedicates to the agent. Was it about him or the writer's friend who hung himself? The acting by all of the central actors was incredible and the plot got a little creepy at times. What I mean by this is that at certain points early in the surveillance the writer's girlfriend is sleeping with a high ranking official and the whole 'sex' scene in the car just is bizarre and then when our Stasi man is listening it almost seems like he wants to be them. I give the film 4/5 stars.
